TEAM LEAD

The team lead helps keeps things organized. A team lead is picked every year, and a team lead can lead no more than two years in a row.

David Bisset

David is a developer living in South Florida, and works for a company called Envira Gallery LLC which makes WordPress plugins used on hundreds of thousands of WordPress installs. He’s a WordPress developer and specializes in BuddyPress sites/applications along with stand-alone PHP work. Also a speaker, meetup organizer, conference organizer, and father of three. CONTENT & COMMUNCATIONS TEAM

This team handles both posts to the website, the content that goes into the pages you see, and the maintenance of the website during the conference. This team also monitors our Slack channel and provides relevant updates to over 400+ who are in various channels.

Elizabeth Reiher

Elizabeth Reiher is a volunteer with the Content Team. She is a paralegal and Certified Scrum Master. You can find her on twitter at Tononomoshia.

Eddie Solar

Eddie is a web developer from Miami, FL who specializes in Front-End and Back-End Development. He supports the local tech community, enjoys learning new things and loves to play with CSS. You can find him on Twitter at @esolar07

KIDS TEAM

This team handles everything to do the kids workshop, events, and meals during the entire event.

Sandy Edwards

Owner of Data Driven Labs, WordPress Developer, and Educator. As a home school mom who is passionate about education, she loves helping kids find their passion for technology. She can be found at @sunsanddesign on Twitter and Instagram and on her business website, a family blog and personal blog.

William Jackson

William Jackson graduated from South Carolina State University earning a Bachelor’s in Education degree. He furthered his education earning a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Webster University with a focus on Educational Technology, Social Media and STEM. William’s career involves past teaching with NASA as an Internet and Technology instructor as well as technology consultant with the Florida Department of Education. He is currently Professor with Edward Waters College teaching Educational Technology, Social Media and STEM. He has been involved in the field of education for over 25 years in elementary and higher education. William has been involved in blogging as a national and international writer, writing in media in the United States, Europe and on the African continent. Using the #myquesttoteach as a foundation to share content that is diverse in the way information can be applied and integrated in many areas.

DESIGN TEAM

The Design Team handles logos, web design, stage decoration, badges, swag, and more.

Roberto Remedios

UX UI Designer & Frontend Developer. WordPress fan since 2006. Always looking to learn and share his knowledge about WordPress with others, accessibility advocate, speaker, community and WPTV wrangler.

EVENT/VENUE TEAM

The local team handles logistics and coordinates local vendors and venues for the conference, speaker’s dinner, after parties, and any other aspects of the event such as catering.

Anthony Miyazaki

Anthony is a brand-builder and spends his time building brands for people, programs, and organizations. He founded and currently directs the FIU Master of Science in Marketing program, the only one in the world with a three-part focus on Digital Marketing, Brand Development, and Marketing Analytics. He leads FIU’s Marketing and Logistics department, and was appointed as the college’s Executive Director of Marketing and Analytics.

Chris Edwards

Chris is co-owner of Data Driven Labs, a WordPress Maintenance and Marketing agency. He is a 19-year Internet marketing veteran with experience in web design & development, search engine optimization, online marketing, social media marketing and mobile development. In addition, he is involved in videography and photography. He specializes in WordPress custom development utilizing either Genesis Framework or underscores and is very active in the WordPress Orlando community. Chris has held development and Internet marketing positions in some of Orlando’s top technology companies.

Nakeesha Charles is the writer and editor-in-chief of cnakeesha.com. Over the last 5 years, she has participated in WordCamp Miami as an attendee, a volunteer, and a speaker on the topic of writing for the web. She has been creating with WordPress since 2009.

VOLUNTEERS TEAM

Volunteers keep WordCamp Miami rolling. Without volunteers, there would be no WordCamp Miami. Many of our volunteers have been with us for multiple years. The Volunteer Team has the critical job of recruiting, training, organizing and managing our incredible team of volunteers.

Allie Nimmons

Allie first attended WordCamp in 2015 and has been a regular attendee ever since. She has been working with websites since 2013 and has gone from self-taught novice to business owner. She owns two web design businesses and works with everyone from momtrepreneurs to non-profit organizations. Find her at pixelglowwebdesign.com.

Oswaldo Arratia

Oswaldo is an electronics engineer, sysadmin and full stack developer who has specialized in the telecommunications area since 1999.

As the owner of VoIPExperts.net LLC, Oswaldo has been designing applications and building networks for telecommunication companies focused on the VoIP technology.

He participates and likes to volunteer at several tech events and conferences. As a hobby, he uses telecommunications to build and interact with applications for small IoT projects.

This team handles interactions with speakers, Room MCs, and similar responsibilities.

Ester (Etty) Sims

Ester “Etty” Sims is a freelance web developer and a social media and marketing coordinator. She specializes in WordPress website development and other platforms for small businesses. In addition, she is the Social Media coordinator and a tutor for the Computer Science and Engineering Department in Broward College. This is her third WordCamp Miami.
To balance her life Etty is vegan, practices yoga, loves art and world travel and promotes a healthy sustainable living.  She is also very involved in her city government where she helped pass a plastic straws ban ordinance.

George Cooke

George is an educator teaching Python, JavaScript, PHP and WordPress for the Computer Science department at Broward College. He is the WordPress administrator for the Computer Science and BC Hackathon web sites and mentors Broward College students who intern at the Computer Science department working on WordPress plugins and themes for the department web sites.

Jesse Velez

Jesse Velez has over 15 years experience designing, coding and leading development web teams. In his spare time he enjoys playing rpg’s like StarCraft 2 (and Minecraft) to keep his brain fresh; and developing plugins for non-profits to better help manage people resources.

MASCOT

Cafecíto Wapuu

Our very own WordCamp Miami mascot is named Cafecito Wapuu after the Cuban coffee shots that seem to be part of his biology. Cafecito Wapuu is an expert in the local Miami dialect and seeks to educate all visitors to our wonderfully diverse South Florida community. IN MEMORIAM

Todrick Moore

Todrick Moore was one of the strongest members of the South Florida WordPress community. After coming to meetups, Todrick quickly volunteered and became a WordCamp Miami organizer in 2015 and 2016. Todrick primarily contributed in the areas of logo design and signs for the event, as evidenced by items he shows on his website. Todrick passed away on September 25, 2018.

Efrain Rivera

Our dear friend, Efrain passed away on January 28, 2018. WordCamp Miami will never be the same without him. Several years ago, Efrain revamped our registration process transforming it from utter chaos into a finely tuned happy place run by smiling volunteers.
