Guide for Sunday (March 17th)

Sunday, March 17th a big day at WordCamp Miami. Use this guide to get all the information you need for a full day of learning, networking and fun!

This page is full of useful information. Please read it carefully! It contains important information about what to do before coming, where to go, and what to expect over the weekend.

Before You Attend

Register Your Vehicle!

Parking is free HOWEVER YOU MUST REGISTER YOUR VEHICLE.

You can register your vehicle on or after Thursday March 14.

You only need to register ONCE for the whole weekend. Here’s how:

  1. Before attending the conference click here to register your vehicle
    (Chrome Desktop Users: Please try another browser.)
  2. Fill in the license plate # and information about your vehicle (this information will be kept private and only to be used by FIU Parking Department).
  3. Once you register your vehicle DO NOT HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN FOR ANY OTHER DAYS. One time register will cover you for the entire conference.
  4. If you bring a different vehicle on different days, you’ll need to use the link again and register the different vehicle.

Get on Our Slack Channel and Social Media

Important updates such as last minute schedule changes, lunch announcements, etc. will be broadcast on Slack and Twitter.

What to Bring

  • Sweater or Jacket, Umbrella

Lunch and some coffee will be provided but this is Spring Break at FIU so Starbucks and other restaurants will be closed. Plan accordingly.

How to Get to FIU

Directions

We highly recommend you enter FIU campus from the 8th street entrance. From the North or the South find your way to campus using the Turnpike, exiting EASTon S.W. 8th Street (U.S. Highway 41 – Tamiami Trail). Once on 8th Street, go East two traffic lights to SW 112TH Avenue, and turn right.

After entering campus, take your first Right, and then your first Left. You should see WordCamp Miami parking signs. Also, there’s a parking garage for additional parking, PG-3 is located on the right if you continue to follow the road.

Please note: Room for Learn JavaScript Deeply Track has been changed to Ryder Building room 120 (RB 120).

Parking:

We have reserved free STUDENT parking in Lot 9 and Panther Parking Garage (PGP, also called PG3).

DO NOT  PARK IN ADMIN OR FACULTY & STAFF SPACES.

Registration

You must register BEFORE attending any sessions.

Registration opens at 8:00am. in the lobby of the CBC building. The CBC building is located right next to the parking lot. There will be signs directing you straight to the building where you will find the registration table. Please bring a picture ID for registration. PLEASE BE PATIENT AS WE EXPECT A LARGE CROWD.

Separate Kids Camp Registration

Parents and children in Kids Camp go directly to the Tech Station (PG 6). The Kids camp registration is in Tech Station (PG 6). Parents who bought a Parent Ticket will also register in Tech Station (PG 6). Please bring the completed Release and Waiver with you to help speed up registration.

NOTE: Parents who registered an older child in Kids Camp (Ages 13-18) and who purchased a separate Weekend Ticket for themselves need to register at the main registration area in CBC Lobby after registering children in Tech Station (PG 6).

Each of these buildings is clearly labeled in the Venue Map above.

Schedule

Our main day of the conference is stuffed full of a variety of topics and includes a number of informative lightning talks.

Advanced Growth Business Track – Sunday, March 17th

The Advanced Growth Business Track will be Hosted by Karim Marucchi & Rian Kinney who brought you last year’s “WCMIA 2018 (micro)MBA course”. In the morning, Karim will lead three audience-interactive conversation sessions with industry-leading experts. In the afternoon, Rian will lead an interactive panel discussion and Q&A about Privacy and Security in 2019.

This track is perfect for: companies (services & products) that have been in business a few years and are ready to take their business to the next level. The Advanced Business Track allows attendees to ask and submit questions, of seasoned experts in their field, before and during the sessions.

Developers looking to improve their JavaScript skills will have a full day of insights and learning.

Breakfast

FIU bagels and coffee will be provided during registration in the CBC courtyard. Supplies are limited, so if you desire extra food/coffee or have a special diet please bring something with you.

Lunch

We are providing lunch for all our attendees at 11:45 am. Lunch will be held at the CBC courtyard. There will be multiple stations to get food – please be aware that there might be shorter lines in other stations.

Kid’s and parents will be provided their own lunch in their workshop Saturday and Sunday.

FIU BBQ will be providing two options of BBQ Ribs or BBQ Chicken with variety of sides and drinks. As a vegetarian option, we are providing a veggie burger w/ sweet potato and tossed salad (these are reserved ONLY for those who requested a veggie option). We will have a VERY limited third option of vegan food (we’ll update this post when the exact items are finalized).

Afternoon Coffee

We have a limited amount of coffee available near the end of lunch in the main lobby.

Closing Remarks

We have a very special closing remarks at 4:30pm in CBC 155 room (where we held the opening remarks, and the room that holds the business track for the day). Be prepared for prizes and surprises!


WiFi

FIU has provided us access to their WiFi network. Once you accept the terms, your access will be good for the rest of the day.
